30 Days of 3.0 – Day 12: Ledgers "Amount" Display Changes
Welcome to Day 12 in our “30 Days of 3.0” series. Yesterday we talked about the new “Calculated By Units” options in the Expenses Ledgers. Today, we’re going to talk about a fix to a long-standing bug.
In the Ledgers, the “Calculated By” option lets you pick different factors to multiply the “Amount” by. Some of these factors are whole numbers, and some of them are percentages. For example, you can specify an expense as 3% of your EGI, or as $31 per Unit.
So the problem was, the product we use for our editable tables was not able to switch the templates after they were defined. So we had to display either one type or another, which meant that 3% was displayed as $3. That caused a lot of problems for some of our users.
To solve this problem, we actually had to modify their product to allow us to be able to hook into it at the right time in order to make it happen.
The end result is, now the “Amount” field behaves exactly the way you would expect. Is it an earth-shattering change? Of course not. But it just goes to show you that, in many different ways, we’re doing things that were not previously possible.
Tomorrow we’ll talk about how “Calculated By” and “Starts After” can work together to help refine your models. I’ll see you then, and as always, I hope you have a fantastic day! :)
