30 Days of 3.0 – Day 13: How "Calculated By" and "Starts On" Work Together
Welcome to Day 13 in our “30 Days of 3.0” series. Yesterday we talked about how we fixed the expected behavior of the “Amount” column. Today, we’re going to talk about how the “Calculated By” and “Starts On” columns can work together to better model new construction and related scenarios.
So let’s say you have a 300-unit complex coming online in 3 phases of 100 units each. You estimate your pest control costs will be $288/unit/year. To model this situation, you can have a line item for each phase, set the Amount to $76/unit/year for each phase, and set each “Starts On” to the dates of your different phases. An example of this is below.
This is just one example. We want to improve this in future versions so that you can have per-unit items only applied to units that are online at any given time. That way, you won’t have to have the same cost appear multiple times in the Ledger.
That about does it for our Ledgers changes. Tomorrow, I’m going to introduce you to a new set of features that we’re very excited about: exit strategies. I’ll see you then, and as always, I hope you have a fantastic day! :)
